Emily Clarke,
N1DID is somewhat of an enigma. Although a ham for less than 4
years she has contributed much to amateur radio beginning with
her early enthusiasm with Amateur Satellites and eventual involvement
with Project OSCAR and AMSAT. Emily has been an avid contester,
winning many awards, but what sets her apart from other hams is
her ability to simplify the complex nature of our hobby or those
who are new to it.
New hams benefit from her ability to provide a starting
point for people new to the hobby. Emily's simple methods of "hear
- then speak" give confidence to new hams moving beyond the
repeater. For those of you who are new to ham radio you will find
inspiration in knowing that Emily lives in an apartment, but has
still amassed over 14,000 contacts in just over three years, and
has had contacts in over 76 countries and has worked all continents!
Description:
Emily will present a brief history of amateur satellites;
explaining why we do it, how we do it, and how you can do it.
She will briefly discuss how to get involved in local amateur
space programs like the CubeSat program and how to get involved
with local colleges and universities.
