QST, CQ, WorldRadio and 73 Amateur Radio Today. Author of “Magic
In The Sky” and Mobile Operations columns that appear in
CQ.
* Active in government affairs, former Mayor, Council
Member and Planning Commissioner for Agoura Hills, CA. Co-authored
the city’s Amateur Radio antenna ordinance and have made
recommendations on same to other localities. Participant in governmental
discussions on RF issues (Amateur Radio, Cellular and Personal
Communications). Have met with district Congressman to discuss
Amateur Radio matters.

Manager of Public Affairs for Las Virgenes Municipal Water District;
part owner of a general-purpose marketing firm with a broad base
of clients. Communications clients include Alinco, AOR and others.
Have been active in media/communications field for over 30 years,
includes experience as on-air broadcast personality and news reporter,
editor, public relations specialist, major league sports marketing
and sponsorships, and financial services marketing.
* Active in several aspects of Amateur Radio including
emergency services (Malibu Fires and California Earthquakes),
teacher of licensing classes and classes on digital modes, Volunteer
Examiner, guest lecturer for schools, service clubs and response
agencies. Served two terms as chairman of TASMA (1999~2000).
* Member of the ARRL, Conejo Valley Amateur Radio Club,
MARAC, APA Digital Communications Network, Agoura Hills Disaster
Response Team (Communications Committee), Handi Hams. Former member
of San Fernando Valley ARC, Santa Barbara Amateur Radio Club,
AMSAT, L.A. County Sheriff’s Disaster Communications Service.
* Amateur Radio has been a family pursuit with spouse,
Melissa - KD6BIT (General); daughter Jessica - KD6ARA (General)
and son Steven - K6SJR (Extra).
* Amateur Radio interests include HF, VHF and UHF bands.
Modes of interest are phone, digital (Voice, PSK31, Packet, APRS,
G-TOR, PACTOR, AMTOR, RTTY) and CW. Enjoy County Hunting, DX contacts,
special event station certificate collecting, traffic handling,
space shuttle and ISS contacts. Achieved CQ’s USA-CA Worked
All US Counties, ARRL WAS 75 Meter Extra Class award and DXCC.
* Have raised many thousands of dollars for Amateur Radio
projects including construction of a regional packet radio network
and coordinated the L.A. County Sheriff’s DCS Van project.
