A Ham-WB2JKJ- since
1962 Joe was President of his HS Radio Club and the LIU club during
his senior year serving as Treasurer for two years prior to the
Presidency.. He went on to write curriculum
that uses Ham Radio as the theme to teach and it was accepted
and printed by the Board and to this day is the only Ham curriculum
certified by a Board of Education in the Nation.
EDUCOM-Education Thru Communication from 1980 to 2003
became the only program he taught. Joe wanted to share this educational
success with others and formed a non-profit organization in 1980,
The Radio Club of Junior High School 22. Known as the “22
Crew” Joe now is full time with the group which is the only
non-profit nationwide that works to get Ham Radio into schools
around the country as a teaching theme via the EDUCOM program,
also Radio Club of JHS 22 is NYC’s largest amateur radio
club..
Over the years Joe, life member of ARRL & QCWA, has
won countless awards and citations including: Fellow at the Radio
Club of America, ARRL Teacher of the Year, Dayton Ham of the Year,
Huntsville (AL) Special Service Award, Knoxville (TN) Ham of the
Year, Society of Wireless Pioneers Teacher of the Year, NY Hall
of Science Educator of the Year, finalist in Disney Teacher of
the Year, Barry Goldwater Award from RCA, 1999 JACK R POPPELE
BROADCASTING AWARD from RADIO CLUB OF AMERICA, upcoming 2005 Joe
is a featured speaker at the late August Huntsville AL Hamfest
and the ARRL Southwestern Division Convention in Riverside CA-Sept
2005 …Paul Parton-Governor of Kentucky-made him an Honorary
Kentucky Colonel, Bill Clinton as Governor of Arkansas & his
then Ham Radio licensed pilot was a supporter along with President
Ronald Reagan who not only supported the concept of the “22
Crew” but also had Joe attend his 2nd inauguration and ……
